Temporary Foreign Worker Program

 

 

The Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Program allows Canadian employers to hire foreign workers to fill temporary jobs when qualified Canadians are not available.

In most applications, the company will be required to submit Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to begin the process for this program.

This program is for applicants in the following specialized area:

  • Express entry
  • Global Talent Stream
  • Academics
  • Agriculture
  • Caregivers
  • Position in Quebec
  • High Wage Worker
  • Low Wage Worker

To qualify for the Temporary Foreign Worker program, applicants must:

  • Have a job offer from a Canadian employer.
  • Not be inadmissible to Canada for any reason.  Individuals can be inadmissible to Canada for criminal, medical or financial reasons.

Individual must apply for Work Permit from Citizenship and Immigration Canada to be able to apply for this Program. Work Permit under this program will only be valid for short period of time (1 Year Max) and will be tied to the employer/Company.

The application for the work permit should be made once you have a job contract or employment offer from a Canadian employer and the LMIA obtained by your employer, unless your position is exempt from an LMIA. If your employer is based in Quebec, you will also need to obtain an additional document from the Quebec government before applying for your work permit.

This program does not give permanent residence, however the work experience gained in this program will give the applicant more advantage in other Permanent Residence program such as Express Entry Visa, Provincial Nominee Programs, etc.

Applicants will be expected to return to their home country after the program date ended.
